Adam Myerson's Housatonic Valley Classic Road Race

In May 2002, Adam Hodges Myerson raced in the Housatonic Valley Classic Road race. He shared this screen shot of the data downloaded from his SRM and displayed with Powercoach, the software he uses to analyze his data.

Adam's notes on his race:

  1. mph is green, rpm is blue, hr is red, and power is pink
  2. I know there are no x and y labels on the graph. Bear with me...
  3. The one vertical marker that's there is the start of the first KOM at mile 30 or so, where over half the field got dropped.
  4. You can see in the last 15 miles where I was chasing back on with a group, the cyclical spikes in my power.
  5. You can also see in the HR graph that in the last quarter of the file, my HR is dropping, but the power demands are not. So, on the last KOM, it was clear I was going to get dropped. I couldn't raise my level again.

I've located a graph of the course profile and include it here, along with another version of Adam's graph. In my version, I have plotted by distance rather than by time so that it is more easily compared to the published course profile. In addition, I have smoothed the data so that the essential pattern is highlighted. The smoothed graph shows the correspondence between power and HR, and indicates the KOM primes.

A zipped, comma-separated-value version of his Housatonic race data can be downloaded here.
